Straight Razor · Hot Lather · Hot Towel
The classic hot towel shave - hot lather, straight razor, hot towel, and the cleanest shave of your life. A barbershop tradition done right. From $30.
The hot towel shave is the most classic barbershop service there is - and at The Dominicans Barbershop, we do it right. Hot lather, a straight razor, a hot towel, and a finish that leaves your face smoother than you've ever felt it.
Most men have never had a proper hot towel shave. They've used cartridge razors at home, or maybe an electric shaver. But a straight razor shave from a skilled barber is a completely different experience - closer, smoother, and oddly relaxing.
Our barbers are trained in the traditional hot towel shave technique. Hot lather is applied to soften the beard, a hot towel opens the pores, and the straight razor removes every last hair. The result is a shave that lasts days longer than a cartridge razor. From $30. Open 7 days a week.
Our hot towel shave includes: Consultation - your barber assesses your skin type, beard growth, and any sensitivities. Pre-Shave Oil - a light oil to soften the beard and protect the skin. Hot Lather - warm shaving lather applied to the beard area. Hot Towel - a hot towel wrapped around the face to open pores and further soften the beard. Straight Razor Shave - the barber shaves with the grain, then re-lathers and shaves against the grain for the closest possible shave. Second Hot Towel - another hot towel to soothe the skin and remove any remaining lather. After-Shave Balm - a soothing balm to hydrate and protect the skin.
The full process takes 30-45 minutes. It's a relaxing, almost spa-like experience - many clients nearly fall asleep in the chair. You walk out with the smoothest face of your life.
We use professional-grade products and sanitized straight razors for every client. Hygiene is our top priority - every razor is sanitized between clients, and we use fresh towels and lather for each shave.
There are several reasons to get a hot towel shave: 1) It's the closest shave possible - a straight razor removes hair below the skin line, giving you a smoother result than any cartridge razor. 2) It lasts longer - a straight razor shave stays smooth for 2-3 days, compared to 1 day for a cartridge razor. 3) It's better for your skin - the hot towel and pre-shave oil reduce irritation and razor burn. 4) It's relaxing - the hot towel and slow process are genuinely soothing. 5) It's a tradition - men have been getting hot towel shaves for centuries. It's a classic experience.
Hot towel shaves are perfect for special occasions - weddings, job interviews, important meetings, or just when you want to treat yourself. Many of our clients get a shave once a month as a self-care ritual.
If you have sensitive skin or are prone to ingrown hairs, a straight razor shave can actually be better than a cartridge razor - the single blade reduces irritation and the hot towel prep softens the hair.
Standalone hot towel shave: $30+. This includes the full process described above. Add a haircut for a complete refresh: $70+ for a cut and shave combo. Add a beard trim for a full grooming package: $90+ for cut, beard, and shave.
We recommend getting a hot towel shave every 2-4 weeks, depending on how fast your beard grows and how smooth you want to stay. Some clients come weekly; others come monthly for a special treat.
