The First Latino Barbershop in Raleigh
Born in the Dominican Republic, raised in New York, and sharpening Raleigh since 2006 - Joseph Mejia and his international crew deliver cuts you can't get anywhere else in the Triangle.
When Joseph Mejia - known to regulars as El Truco - opened The Dominicans Barbershop in 2006, it was the first Latino barbershop in Raleigh. Nearly two decades later, it's a Triangle institution, drawing clients from every background who want a cut done the Dominican way.
Dominican barbering isn't just a technique; it's a standard. It means mastering every hair texture, finishing with hot towel detail, and treating every client like family. Our team brings that standard to skin fades, traditional cuts, beard sculpting, and the signature Dominican blowout.
You don't have to be Dominican, Latino, or from any particular background to sit in our chairs - you just have to want a sharp cut in a welcoming room. That's the culture Joseph built, and it's why people drive past a dozen closer shops to get to us.
Dominican barbers are trained to work with the full spectrum of hair textures - from tight coils to straight - and to blend them seamlessly. The result is a fade that looks intentional from every angle and a lineup that stays crisp for weeks.
We also finish every cut with the touches that separate a good haircut from a great one: hot towel treatment, detailed neckline cleanup, and styling that matches your hair type and lifestyle.
Joseph Mejia leads a team of 24 barbers, each with their own specialty - from skin fades to kids cuts to beard artistry. You can request a specific barber or walk in and let the next available chair take care of you.
Every barber on the floor is bilingual (English and Spanish), so you can explain exactly what you want in the language you're most comfortable in.
