A child's first haircut is a big deal - for the parents, at least. For the toddler, it can be scary or it can be fun. At The Dominicans Barbershop, we specialize in making first haircuts a positive experience for both child and parent.
Our barbers have years of experience with toddlers and young children. We know how to keep them calm, distracted, and still - and we know how to make the experience quick and gentle. Most first haircuts take 15-20 minutes.

What to expect at your child's first haircut
When you arrive, let the barber know it's your child's first haircut. We'll take a little extra time to make them comfortable. Your child can sit in your lap if they prefer - whatever makes them feel safe.
The barber will work calmly and gently, explaining what they're doing in a friendly voice. We can use clippers (with a quiet guard) or scissors, depending on your child's comfort level. If your child is scared of the clippers, we can switch to scissors.
Most first haircuts are simple - a trim, a shape-up, or a short cut. We can do more elaborate styles for older toddlers, but for the very first cut, we recommend keeping it simple and quick. The goal is a positive experience, not a complex style.
Tips for a successful first haircut
Here are our top tips for a great first haircut: 1) Come during a quieter time - weekday mornings (9-11 AM) are ideal. Avoid Saturdays if possible. 2) Bring something to distract your child - a phone, tablet, toy, or snack. 3. Sit nearby so your child can see you. 4) Bring a photo of the style you want. 5) Don't worry if they cry - it's normal, and our barbers know how to handle it. 6) Make it a celebration - bring family, take photos, maybe get a treat after.
If your child has a lot of hair or it's their very first cut, we may need a little extra time. That's fine - we'll take as long as we need to get it right without rushing.
Many parents bring their child in for their first haircut and then make The Dominicans their regular spot. We love watching kids grow up in our chair - from their first cut to their first fade to their high school graduation cut.

Kids haircuts are $25+ for children under 12. This includes the cut, lineup, and styling. We accept cash and credit cards. For a first haircut, we recommend walking in during a quieter time (weekday mornings) or booking online to secure a specific barber.
If you have multiple kids, bring them together - with 24 barbers, we can handle several at once. This is great for siblings who want to get their cuts together.
