Hair design is art. A line, a pattern, a star, a letter - it's the detail that takes a fade from sharp to unforgettable. At The Dominicans Barbershop, our barbers are skilled in hair design and line art, from simple lines to complex custom artwork.
Hair designs are especially popular with kids, teens, and young adults who want to express their personality. But we've done designs for clients of all ages - from a 5-year-old's first star to a 40-year-old's custom logo. If you can imagine it, we can probably cut it.
Designs are included in the haircut price ($35+ for a regular cut, $40+ for a skin fade). Just bring a photo or describe what you want. We're at 3601 Capital Blvd, Raleigh, NC 27604. Open 7 days a week. Walk-ins welcome.
Types of hair designs we do
We can cut a wide range of designs, including: Simple Lines - one or two clean lines in the fade. Multiple Lines - parallel lines for a geometric look. Stars - a star on the side or back. Letters / Initials - your initial or a short word. Numbers - a jersey number or meaningful number. Arrows - directional arrows for a modern look. Lightning Bolts - a bold, eye-catching design. Custom Logos - team logos, brand logos, or custom artwork (complexity may affect price).
Designs are typically placed in the fade area - the side or back of the head where the hair is shortest. This makes the design visible and crisp. For more complex designs, we may need to adjust the fade height or style.

How hair designs work
Hair designs are cut using trimmers and straight razors. The barber first completes the fade, then carefully cuts the design into the faded area. This requires a steady hand and an eye for symmetry - our barbers have both.
Most designs take 5-15 minutes to complete, depending on complexity. Simple lines are fast; custom logos or intricate patterns take longer. The design is included in the haircut price, though very complex designs may cost extra.
Designs last 1-2 weeks, depending on how fast your hair grows. As the hair grows, the design fades. To maintain it, come back for a touch-up every 1-2 weeks. We can re-cut the same design or try something new.
Tips for a great hair design
Here are some tips for the best hair design: 1) Bring a photo - this is the #1 way to get the design you want. 2) Choose a design that fits the fade height (simple designs work with any fade; complex designs need more space). 3) Consider the placement - side designs are most visible, back designs are more subtle. 4) Keep the design proportional to your head size. 5) If you want a custom logo, bring a clear, high-quality photo.

The Dominicans Barbershop is at 3601 Capital Blvd, Suite 113, Raleigh, NC 27604. We're on Capital Boulevard (US-1) with free parking right out front - no circling, no paid lots.
